Travelers' Oasis Travel Plaza · AN I-84 Destination

A 33,000-square-foot Travelers' Oasis Travel Plaza on Interstate 84 in Eden, Idaho (2024), a Garden-of-Eden-themed travel center featuring a 30-foot steel-and-glass octagonal tree enclosure, five food vendors with a shared commercial kitchen, a 26-station gas island, and a truckers' lounge.

About the Project

What goes into designing a high-volume interstate travel plaza?

Integrating many uses (fuel, multiple food vendors, a shared kitchen, a truckers' lounge, retail) into one efficient destination, with dual roofs for visibility and equipment concealment, a hidden daylight basement for back-of-house, and DEQ coordination for water and sewer.

Size: 33,000 sq.ft.
Delivery: March 2024

Positioned along I-84, Travelers' Oasis was envisioned as exactly that: an oasis where travelers, families, truckers, and locals rest, refresh, and linger rather than simply pass through. A Garden of Eden theme transforms the typical travel stop into a lush retreat, with a dramatic 30-foot-diameter steel-and-glass octagonal enclosure housing an iconic tree carried over from the previous store, plus water features, bird-song audio, and garden murals across walls and ceilings. Two roof systems do the quiet work: a sloped roof for interstate visibility and a flat parapet roof concealing HVAC and kitchen equipment, while a daylight basement keeps deliveries and back-of-house out of public view. The team led full construction project management: consultant and contractor coordination, submittal review, RFI responses, and field verification; oversight of five food vendors on a shared commercial kitchen, a Sonic drive-thru, a 26-station gas island and 8-station diesel canopy, a modern truckers' lounge with showers, and extensive DEQ coordination for a new well and lagoon-based sewer system. The completed plaza is more than a travel stop. It's a destination.
